House Explosion in Mifflin Township Leaves Residents and Firefighters Injured

Mifflin Township, OH — A devastating house explosion and fire erupted at 987 Becky Drive earlier this week, injuring multiple people and leveling the home.

Two residents were transported for medical care following the initial explosion. One of the individuals is being treated at a specialized burn unit after reportedly sustaining burns over approximately 40% of his body. The condition of the second occupant has not yet been released.

As firefighters responded to the scene, a secondary explosion occurred, injuring Mifflin Township Fire Chief and two other firefighters. 2 of the firefighters suffered minor injuries and have since been treated and released. A third firefighter sustained more serious injuries and is expected to be released from the hospital on Friday.

Officials believe a propane tank was the likely cause of the explosion and fire. While the exact failure is still under investigation, early assessments suggest the tank may have malfunctioned due to either a structural defect or extreme heat increasing internal pressure beyond safe limits—possibly a combination of both.

The home was declared a total loss, with all contents destroyed in the fire.

Multiple agencies responded to the emergency, including Mifflin Township Fire, Madison Township Fire, Washington Township Fire, Monroe Township Fire, Mansfield Fire, Savannah Fire, the Ohio State Fire Marshal’s Office, and the Emergency Management Agency.

The investigation is ongoing, and authorities have not yet released further information on the residents’ conditions or official cause of the explosion.
