Mansfield, OH 11/09/24 — I have not been very active lately here is why, Richland News Network (RNN) is unveiling exciting news for the future of local journalism. The news outlet is undergoing a significant transformation, rebranding itself as Appleseed News Inc., a non-profit organization aimed at expanding its mission to deliver high-quality news to the community.
The shift to a non-profit model comes after months of hard work behind the scenes, including securing the necessary approval from the IRS. “I owe it to you, the community, to explain what’s been going on. I’ve been working diligently to make this change possible, and I’m excited to share that Appleseed News Inc. has officially received its non-profit status.
With this change, Appleseed News will have access to new funding opportunities such as grants, donations, and charitable gambling, which will help the organization grow and expand its services. This move gives us the best chance at securing the funding needed to keep the operation running and to continue to provide the news to our community as well as expand to full-time reporting.
In practical terms, the switch to a non-profit means that donations made to Appleseed News will be tax-deductible, allowing supporters to contribute in ways that benefit both the organization and the community. Additionally, Appleseed News will now operate under the governance of a board of directors, ensuring greater transparency and oversight.
While the transformation to a non-profit organization is officially complete, there is still much work to be done. I am currently in the process of overhauling the organization’s website, a task that has proven more challenging than anticipated due to time constraints. I can only work on it in my spare time, but I’m committed to getting it done.
As the rebranding progresses, the team behind Appleseed News Inc. is focused on ensuring that local journalism remains a vital and accessible resource for the Richland community.
