On Jan 13th, 2023, at about 9:30 pm a driver in a grey/silver Toyota Camry failed to stop for Ashland County Sheriff’s Department resulting in a high-speed chase on US 30. The driver of the Camry had no regard for anyone’s safety. During the pursuit, the driver was reported to be going the wrong way on US 30, reaching speeds of 100 mph. Ashland County Sherriff chased the suspect from Ashland County through Richland County, the vehicle finally came to a stop just 1 mile from Crawford County. Richland County Sherriff and The Ohio State Patrol were also involved. The driver was taken into custody. There were no injuries or property damage reported in scanner traffic. I find this amazing, considering the speed and recklessness of this driver, especially considering the weather.

Stolen Vehicle Highspeed Pursuit: A Wild Ride through Ohio’s Counties

    Introduction

In a heart-pounding incident that unfolded across multiple counties in Ohio, law enforcement officers engaged in a high-speed pursuit of a stolen vehicle. This adrenaline-fueled chase started in Chesterville, Ohio, when the Morrow County Sheriff’s Department located the stolen vehicle. Despite their attempts to stop the driver, the individual fled from the deputies, setting off a pursuit that would test the skills and determination of the pursuing officers.

The Pursuit Begins: Chesterville Ohio in Morrow County

The pursuit began in Chesterville, Ohio, when the Morrow County Sheriff’s Department located a stolen vehicle. A high-risk traffic stop was initiated, but rather than complying, the driver chose to flee at high speeds, igniting a dramatic chase that would span multiple counties.

Chasing the Suspects: Moving through Morrow, Richland, and Ashland Counties

As the pursuit escalated, the Ohio Highway State Patrol entered the fray, joining the Morrow County Sheriff’s Department in their quest to apprehend the suspects. The stolen vehicle raced northbound on I-71, with law enforcement officers in hot pursuit. The chase saw speeds exceeding 100mph as the suspects made dangerous maneuvers, passing on the breakdown lane in an attempt to evade capture.
The pursuit continued through Morrow County, into Richland County, and eventually into Ashland County. During this time, the Ashland Sheriff’s Department joined the chase, increasing the number of law enforcement officers dedicated to bringing the suspects to justice.

A Turn of Events: Tire Deflation and Vehicle Loss of Control

Law enforcement officers employed a tactical tire deflation device in an effort to safely disable the fleeing stolen vehicle. This successful maneuver punctured the vehicle’s tires, hampering the suspects’ ability to maintain control and flee at high speeds. The pursuit came to an end when the stolen vehicle exited I-71 at mile marker 186, onto U.S. 250.
Unfortunately for the suspects, their loss of control led to a collision with the concrete safety wall on the bridge crossing over I-71. The impact brought the stolen vehicle to a halt, bringing an end to the dangerous and reckless chase.

The Aftermath: Capturing the Suspects and Ensuring Safety

Law enforcement officers wasted no time in ensuring the safety of both the suspects and the public.
