Mansfield Public Art Commission and Mansfield Richland County Public Library Announce Art Exhibit: “A Cabinet of Curiosities”

MANSFIELD, Ohio — The Mansfield Public Art Commission, in partnership with the Mansfield Richland County Public Library are pleased to announce their upcoming collaborative art exhibit, “A Cabinet of Curiosities.” The exhibition will open to the public on September 14, 2026, and run through November 13, 2026.

Inspired by the Renaissance and Enlightenment-era Wunderkammer—or “Cabinets of Curiosities”—the exhibition explores humanity’s enduring fascination with collecting, cataloging, and marveling at the extraordinary. These early collections brought together remarkable objects from across the known world, blurring the boundaries between science, art, history, and myth.

Hosted in the second-floor lobby of the library’s Main Branch at 43 W. 3rd Street in Mansfield, “A Cabinet of Curiosities”  is a juried exhibition celebrating the wonder, mystery, and beauty of the natural world through two-dimensional art showcasing local talent.

“This partnership highlights the vibrant intersection of public art and community learning,” said Jennifer Pennell, Public Art Commission Chair. “By utilizing the library’s lobby space, we are bringing unique and accessible art directly to the heart of downtown Mansfield.”
